Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule said that his administration has cleared over N50bn inherited debt when he assumed office in May 2019.

He said the administration has also been saving for rainy days while also embarking on infrastructural development across the state.

He spoke during the stakeholders meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Government House in Lafia.

Governor Sule said he was able to pay off the debt and also provide services to the state because of the inflow of funds to the states from the federal government.

He said the administration of President Bola Tinubu has been magnanimous by ensuring the release of funds to meet development and other needs.

The governor revealed that more funds have been released to the state by the federal government following the removal of fuel subsidy to cushion its effect on the people across the country.

“The president has done a wonderful thing to say the money derived from the removal of fuel subsidy should be shared among the federal, state, and local government areas.  I am proud to tell you that Nasarawa State used to get a certain amount of money before but now we are getting twice of it,” he stated.

He said his predecessors were not lucky to have seen the kind of resources coming the way of the current administration, noting that there is no reason why state governments across the country would not provide the dividend of democracy to their people because of the amount of funds accruing to the states.

“That is the reason why we have been able to do whatever we are doing. With due respect to my predecessors, I am not sure if they have ever seen the kind of resources that some of us are seeing today. And this is all over the states. That is the reason why we can afford to do certain things we are not able to do,” he added.

He highlighted the giant strides recorded thus far, especially in the areas of industrialisation, agriculture, education, and petroleum resources, with President Bola Tinubu expected to commission one of the largest lithium processing plants in the country, while the president of the African Development Bank is also expected to grace the second biannual investment summit billed for May 15 and 16.
