Former governorship aspirant under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Dr Mkpang Coco-Bassey, has said he dumped the party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to enable him align with former Anambra State governor, Mr Peter Obi.
In a resignation letter dated March 12, 2026, addressed to the chairman, Ward 11, Calabar, he saisd, “I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the PDP, Ward 11, Calabar South local government area, Cross River State,” he wrote.
Coco-Bassey, an engineer, expressed his gratitude for the opportunities and support he received while in the PDP.
“I have been a committed and faithful member of the party, contributing my time, energy, and resources to its growth and success at both the ward and local levels,” he said.
Coco-Bassey said he deeply valued the relationships and experiences he gained during his time with the PDP. He wished the party continued success in its future endeavours.
The resignation letter was copied to the state chairman of the PDP. Coco-Bassey is expected to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
When asked about his next move, Coco-Bassey said he’s joining the ADC coalition, aligning with the likes of Peter Obi and others.
“My aim is to serve Nigeria and rescue Cross Riverians by changing and implementing actionable economic policies from consumption to production,” he stated.
This move, he believes, will help alleviate the hardship faced by his people in Cross River State.
Coco-Bassey is the president of Calabar Forum in the United Kingdom and founder of the Coco-Bassey Foundation.
“I remain grateful for the opportunities and support I received while in the party, and I wish the PDP continued success in its future endeavours,” he added.
