Argentina forward Julian Alvarez has publicly confirmed his intention to leave Atletico Madrid, fuelling speculation about a potential blockbuster move during the summer transfer window.
The striker made the revelation while speaking to ESPN following Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Austria at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
Alvarez admitted he had already held discussions with Atletico Madrid officials and believes a departure would be the best solution for all parties involved.
“I don’t want to hide or avoid being clear,” Alvarez said. “I have spoken with Atletico and I think the best thing for everyone is for me to leave. I want to fulfil my dream.”
The 26-year-old did not reveal the specific destination he hopes to join, but his comments are expected to intensify interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Reports have linked the Argentina international with a number of elite sides, including Real Madrid, Arsenal and Barcelona.
Alvarez has established himself as one of Europe’s most complete forwards thanks to his work rate, intelligent movement and clinical finishing. His performances for both club and country have made him a highly coveted asset in the transfer market.
According to reports, Atletico Madrid have already rejected a €150 million offer from Real Madrid, underlining their determination to retain one of their key players.
Nevertheless, Alvarez’s public declaration has placed fresh pressure on the Spanish club as uncertainty continues to surround his future. With several European giants monitoring the situation, his next move is likely to become one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer.
