A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Zamfara State, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, said he will remain in APC, dismissing rumours of potential defection to the People Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at a press conference at his residence in Gusau, Shinkafi said he is dedicated to APC and vowed to remain in the party and ensure that the rights of members are protected.
The APC chieftain said insinuations that he would defect to PDP because of his physical appearance at Governor Dauda Lawal’s commissioning projects was false and without justification.
He said as an indigene of the state and a politician with political relevance in his community, state and country, he has the right to honor any invitation from any leader of the political parties for commissioning of projects.
“Some people are surprised to see my appearance in the commissioning of projects of who we happen to be from different political parties, but I have seen no reason why a Governor of my state, not a Governor of PDP, a Governor of Zamfara State with a population of about six million cut across 14 local government areas, will invite me and I decline the invitation, then I will be the greatest ignorant person in the history of Nigeria.
“I am a member of APC and I remain a card carrying member of APC as I am talking to you today, nobody can change my condition, my principle on what I believe.
“Governor invited me as one of the politically exposed person from my own community, from my state and also nation at large along with former President Obasanjo, the former Governor of Zamfara State Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi, and former Ambassador Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Abubakar Chika Bunu and they are all from APC with exception of former President Obasanjo who remained most elder statesman for the nation.
“We have to keep party differences aside and embrace transformation, peace, unity and security so as to see how our people would be uprooted from the artificial poverty which was used as a weapon for campaign,” he said.
