The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has issued words of commendation to the government of Enugu State, led by Governor Peter Mbah, for its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The commendation, which was in a statement issued by the association’s Spokesman, Emmanuel Nkweke, said was based on a review of the state government’s commitments to the attainment of SDG goals, which began early this year.
Key highlights of Governor Mbah’s commitment to SDGs include Sustainable Development Agenda, which is evident in Governor Mbah’s administration outlining its commitment to the attainment of SDGs, emphasising inclusive economic growth, sector competitiveness, and sustainable economic, social, and environmental resilience for all citizens.
Governor Mbah had earlier received members of IAWPA, led by World Peace President, Amb. Per Stafsen, International Director Amb Chidi Ehiriodo, and International Spokesman Amb Emmanuel Nkweke, at the Enugu State Government House. During the meeting, he outlined his administration’s commitment to achieving the SDGs.
He said the State’s SDG-Focused Initiatives include Agricultural Development, where the state was prioritising the development of special agro-allied industrial zones to drive modernization and productivity of key agricultural product value chains. Another area he outlined is Security and Investment. Governor Mbah said heis administration has prioritized security as a foundational pillar for economic growth, making Enugu one of Nigeria’s safest states.
The statement said as the SDG month comes to an end, IAWPA appreciated Governor Peter Mbah’s dedication to advancing the SDGs in Enugu State.
The statement called on other governors to hasten their commitment to the SDGs which is expected to be attained by 2030.
“Advocacy is the game plan. We at IAWPA believes in advocacy and that is what we are doing at IAWPA,” the statement said.
