IAWPA Launches INEC Is Your Friend Campaign Initiative

The International Association of World Peace Advocates IAWPA has launched the INEC IS YOUR FRIEND CAMPAIGN INITIATIVE which is aimed at enlightening Nigerians on the need to ensure a hitch free elections come 2023. The International organization which carried out a sensitisation walk in major streets if the Federal Capital Territory FCT yesterday said the reported attacks against INEC negates SDG six of the United Nations sustainable development goals SDG which emphasises on strong institutions.

 

Speaking while presenting it’s position paper to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC at it’s headquarters yesterday the international Spokesman man of IAWPA Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke said INEC under Prof. Yakubu has shown cause why it should be trusted come 2023. He cited the passage of the 2022 electoral Act as amended and the introduction of BVAS as clear indicators of the readiness of INEC to embark on a successful election come 2023.

 

The association called on Nigerians to report individuals it groups embarking on the destruction of INEC facilities or staff labelling them enemies of the country.

IAWPA called on INEC to embark on a rigorous enlightenment campaign which will help ensure that Nigerians are abreast with the 2022 electoral Act as well as the activities of the electoral body. He said the association is on ground to mobilise it’s over ten thousand trained electoral observers to observe the elections especially in the area of tolerance among the political parties.

 

“Our over ten thousand trained election observers are ready to embark on a serious observation of the forthcoming electionsespecially in the area of political tolerance”

 

The association also called on traditional rulers well meaning Nigerians, diplomatic missions and religious leaders to support INEC inorder to deliver successful elections come 2023.

 

While receiving the association at the headquarters, a representative of INEC who is a deputy director in charge of security thanked the association for embarking on the sensitisation walk. He said the frequent attacks is worrisome. He pledged to transmit the position of the association to his top echelon of the electoral body.

 

The International Association of World Peace Advocates IAWPA it should be recalled, has been at the forefront of pursuing for global and regional peace. It enjoys a special Consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council ECOSOSC since 2019.
