The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Police to recognise the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) following the

The group stated this while hailing the judgment of the Oyo State High Court affirming the party’s 2025 National Convention, describing it as a victory for the rule of law and internal democracy.

The group said the court, presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola, upheld the November 15 and 16, 2025 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which produced the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).

It urged INEC to immediately recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led NWC as the legitimately elected leadership of the party and limit all official correspondence on PDP matters to the committee.

CP-PDP also called on the Nigeria Police Force to unseal the party’s national secretariats in Abuja Wadata Plaza and Legacy House to enable the Turaki-led NWC access the facilities and discharge its responsibilities.

National coordinator of the group, Barr Obinna Nwachukwu, said “Furthermore, INEC should henceforth accord all recognition and limit official correspondence to the Turaki-led NWC on all matters regarding the PDP. This is based on the fact that the judgment of the Oyo State High Court is the latest ruling by a court of concurrent jurisdiction on the matter.

“Additionally, the CP-PDP calls on the Police, following this judgment, to unseal the National Secretariats of the PDP in Abuja (Wadata Plaza and Legacy House). The police must allow the Turaki-led NWC access to the complex to perform its legitimate duty of running the affairs of the party, while also ensuring the NWC is provided with the adequate security guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution.

“The CP-PDP commends the judiciary for its courage in upholding the National Convention in line with the rule of law and the principle of the supremacy of a political party over its internal affairs, as already established by the Supreme Court.”

CP-PDP said the declaratory judgment confirmed that the convention was legal and valid, stressing that its outcome is binding on all relevant authorities.

The group maintained that the ruling of the Oyo State High Court remains the latest decision by a court of concurrent jurisdiction on the matter and should therefore be respected.

It further urged security agencies to provide adequate protection for the committee in line with constitutional provisions.

The group commended the judiciary for what it described as courage in upholding the supremacy of a political party over its internal affairs, a principle it said has been affirmed by the Supreme Court.
