The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has attributed the recent drop in electricity supply to load allocation constraints from the national grid across its franchise area.

Public Relations Officer of IBEDC, Ms. Busolami Tunwase, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Friday.

NAN reports that IBEDC’s response followed the threat of mass protest against the company by some communities in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The communities in Oluyole Estate Extension had given IBEDC a seven-day ultimatum to restore their power supply or face a mass protest at its office.

The communities, including Progressive Estate, Heritage Estate, Oorelope Community, Ore-Ofe Estate, and Ire-Akari Community, are fed by Ajinde Feeder of IBEDC. Operating under the Joint Community Development Association (CDA), they expressed dissatisfaction with the recent spate of epileptic power supply.

They were particularly displeased with the power supply by IBEDC to their communities, especially in the last seven weeks, stating that the situation had become unbearable for them.

However, IBEDC’s Public Relations Officer noted that the company had been collaborating with stakeholders in the electricity value chain to find a timely and sustainable resolution to the problem.

Tunwase said that IBEDC had met with representatives of some of the aggrieved communities to explain the issues behind the low power supply and apologise to them.

She added that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had also made a public announcement concerning the issue. Tunwase reiterated the company’s willingness and readiness to resolve the matter amicably.

“The drop in electricity supply currently being experienced is a result of load allocation constraints across our franchise area from the national grid. We are engaging with stakeholders in the electricity value chain on a lasting solution. We appeal for understanding and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience the situation might have caused,” she said. (NAN)
