Residents of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, carried out a protest on Monday to convey their grievances over alleged plans by the state government to acquire more land for the expansion of the Ibadan Circular Road corridor.

Our correspondent reports that the protesting residents, mainly from Ido, Lagelu, Ona Ara, Akinyele, Oluyole and Egbeda areas, called on the Governor Seyi Makinde-led government to maintain the 150 metres already marked by the initiator of the project, former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, the current Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The group of protesters, currently at the Iwo Road area of the city, blocked access in and out of the area, which is one of the major transport hubs in Ibadan.

The blockage has caused a serious traffic snarl in that area.

Similarly, another group of protesters laid siege to the entrance of the Agodi Government Secretariat, bearing placards with various inscriptions.
