The IBB International Golf and Country Club is gearing up to host the highly anticipated Captain’s Cup 2025 from April 7 to April 12 in Abuja, expecting an impressive turnout of no fewer than 300 golfers.
During a pre-event briefing held yesterday, the chairman of the organizing committee, Ambassador Ben Okoyen, expressed enthusiasm for the event, which honors the meritorious service of the club’s captain, whose tenure concludes on April 25. “The competition will feature golfers from across the country, including sponsors and friends of the captain,” Okoyen stated.
“This six-day event is filled with numerous activities. The IBB International Golf and Country Club has consistently worked to promote golf and sports development in Nigeria. We are well-prepared for the tournament and wish to extend our gratitude to our sponsors, committee members, course workers, and the captain for their unwavering support,” he added.
The celebratory captain, Ibrahim Babayo, remarked that the Captain’s Cup serves as the club’s flagship tournament each year. “It signifies the conclusion of the current executive committee’s term and the beginning of a new one. I want to thank the organizing committee for their dedication and commitment, despite their busy schedules, in putting this tournament together, which we believe will be a fitting end for the captain,” Babayo said.
Ashir Tarfa, the club’s competition secretary, outlined the event’s schedule, kicking off on Monday, April 7, with caddies and staff showcasing their talents on the course. According to Tarfa, course maintenance will take place until noon on Tuesday, April 8, when the course will open at 12 PM. On Wednesday, April 9, Division 3 competitions for men with handicaps of 29 and above and women with handicaps of 36 and above will take place. The Super Veterans, Veterans (male and female), and Pros will compete on Thursday, April 10, with professional golfers vying for a N5 million cash prize.
On Friday, April 11, Division 2 events for men (handicaps 11-28) and women (handicaps 16-35) will occur, while Saturday, April 12, will feature the grand finale with Division 1 competitions for men (handicaps 0-10) and women (handicaps 0-15), alongside Executive Committee members, board sponsors, and special guests.
The tournament will culminate in a presentation dinner at 7 PM on April 12.
