The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and supported by the MacArthur Foundation has trained media reporters on effective collaboration in corruption prevention.

Our reporter reports that the participants were selected from different print and broadcast media outlets from their states of coverage across the federation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the one-day workshop held at Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja on Monday, chairman ICPC, Musa Adamu Aliyu, emphasised the crucial role of information in fulfilling their mandate.

He said investigative journalism has the potential to hold those in power accountable, thereby helping the commission to achieve its goals.

Also speaking, MacArthur Foundation’s country director, Dr Kole Shettima, stressed the importance of balanced reporting, urging the media to also showcase positive stories and celebrate upright individuals to serve as role models.

In his speech, the NUJ national president, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, reiterated that corruption breeds underdevelopment and advocated for journalists to expose the truth and champion accountability.

He also called for protection and empowerment of journalists through laws and policies supporting investigative reporting, noting that journalists who expose corruption often face threats to their lives.
