The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), has named its multi- million naira Skills Acquisition Centre after the Emir of Ilorin, Alh Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
The national president of the apex body for all socio-cultural groups in Ilorin Emirate, Alh Aliyu Otta- Uthman made this known in Ilorin, the state capital while briefing newsmen on the preparations for the coming 58th annual national conference of the union.
The conference will hold between December 25 and 26, 2023 in Ilorin, Kwara State capital and Afon, the headquarters of Asa local government area of the state respectively.
“ The main purpose of this press briefing is to formally intimate the members of the public of the forthcoming 58th national conference. It’s also premised on the need for the members of the public to be properly informed of the projects the union expended the money we raised in the last four years on. The first of the projects is the Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari Skills Acquisition Centre, which is nearing completion and the second is the IEDPU Central Jummat Mosque. The two projects are the brainchild of the union under my leadership,” Otta- Uthman stated.
He explained that the skills acquisition centre was designed to provide a place for members of the younger generations of Ilorin community to acquire practical skills in one area of technical entrepreneurship or the other.
The IEDPU president said that the new Centra Mosque is a place of worship for members of the union and residents of the adjourning communities, adding that,” the intention of the union behind the two projects is to show the World that in the Ilorin Emirate, we “ work and worship. The two, “ work” and “worship”, are the heritage we inherit from our forebears and they are the legacies we are determined to bequeath to the younger ones and future generations of indigenes of Ilorin Emirate.”
He said that the opening ceremony of the conference will feature fund raising for the completion of the projects; IEDPU scholarship scheme and economic empowerment programme for the less privileged members of the community.
Otta- Uthman thanked the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Emir of Ilorin, Alh Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari for their support for the union in the last four years.
