Vice chancellor of Igbinedion University, Okada, in Edo State, Prof Lawrence Ezemonye, has said the ivory tower remained committed to its vision of producing highly skilled graduates who can stand their own anywhere in the world through entrepreneurial skills acquisition and employability training.

Ezemonye made the declaration while declaring open the University’s entrepreneurial skills acquisition and employability training, organised by Sir (Dr) David Osunde Centre For Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition.

Igbinedion University, he said, was proud to have championed higher education revolution in Nigeria through innovation, entrepreneurship, bespoke research in tandem with its motto of ā€˜Knowledge and Excellence.’

According to him, it is noteworthy that Igbinedion University pioneered entrepreneurial skills acquisition as a course in the Nigerian University System before the National Universities Commission (NUC) made it compulsory in all universities.

ā€žIt is therefore heartwarming that the Federal and State Governments including the NUC have accorded special priority attention to this initiative because of the huge potential that entrepreneurial skills acquisition holds for the future of the youthā€œ.Ā

Ezemonye also disclosed that Igbinedion University engages all its 300 level students across the Colleges on Entrepreneurial Studies, having gone through the foundational course: EPS 211 at 200 level and it is the practical and final phase of their training in entrepreneurship.

The training, he said, is packaged and deliberately articulated towards psychologically preparing the students to become future-ready graduates through gainful engagements after life in the Ivory tower.

Ā He also noted that the 21st Century comes with many challenges, adding that disruptive technology and communications are some of the most advanced developments in the century and to cope with these advancements, mastering entrepreneurial skills has become a necessity.
