Some Igbos across the country have called for the sack of the Director General of Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, over the Secret Police’s description of Lawyers defending the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, as members of the outlawed IPOB group.

The DSS had on Tuesday described the Emefiele’s legal counsels, who filed contempt charges against DSS Director-General, Yusuf Bichi, over the continued detention of the embattled CBN Governor, as “charge and bail lawyers”.

The Service in a series of tweets posted via its official Twitter handle noted that the Lawyers were headed by an “overzealous and uninformed IPOB/ESN lawyer”.

The Secret Police said, “Charge and bail, overzealous uninformed IPOB/ESN lawyer Maxwell Okpara mobilises other like-minded lawyers against DGSS. Futile Efforts. Well, Nigerians, beware! This is in bad faith. Transferred aggression. A Biafran Republic agitator and Outlawed IPOB counsel defending the suspended CBN Governor. Is IPOB defending one of theirs.”

But, reacting to the uncomplimentary remarks, Ohanaeze Youth Movement Intelligence Committee chairman, Mazi Sam Ukoha, in a statement on Friday, lamented how the Igbos were the easiest targets and victims of ethnic profiling in Nigeria.

He described as disgraceful, the comments boldly made against the Igbos by an organisation that’s supposed to be unbiased and apolitical.

He insisted that DG DSS should tender his resignation or be sacked for ethnic profiling against the Igbos.

He said, “We are really sad and in shock that the DSS could describe the lawyers defending suspended Governor of Central Bank, CBN Godwin Emefiele as IPOB members without any proof. Igbos are always victims of ethnic profiling and prejudice. It is high time Igbos say enough is enough! We demand immediate sack of director general DSS, Yusuf Bichi for such unprofessional, disgraceful conduct.”
