The Kogi State chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has acknowledged the philanthropic contributions and public service efforts of Dr Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, OFR, describing her as a well-regarded figure with ties to Igboland.

This recognition follows the recent declaration by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which listed Achimugu as wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation.

Speaking on the matter, the Kogi State Coordinator of the council, Chris Ogbonna, highlighted that Achimugu holds a chieftaincy title conferred on her by traditional leaders in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State—a gesture he said reflects her commitment to humanitarian efforts.

Ogbonna noted that the title conferment was preceded by what he described as a comprehensive appraisal of her character and contributions, particularly her efforts in supporting social causes.

“This is why we were taken aback when we read that the EFCC declared her wanted. At first, we had thought it could be a case of mistaken identity, but the commission has yet to withdraw the wanted tag placed on her.

“Based on this, we have considered it most expedient to lend our voice to this development, urging the EFCC to reconsider its stand.

“Mrs Achimugu is someone well respected and who has devoted her life to the service of humanity, an act that earned her a chieftaincy title in Igboland, Udi local government area in Enugu State.

“For her to have been given the title came after thorough checks on her personality, and she was not in any way found wanting. Rather, testimonies abound of her hard work and dedication to serving humanity.”

He urged the EFCC to ensure due process is followed. Given Achimugu’s public standing and community service record, he hoped the matter would be approached fairly and objectively.

The group emphasised the importance of upholding individuals’ dignity while investigations are underway and encouraged a careful review of all circumstances involved.
