The Ebonyi State Police Command has debunked the allegation that the prominent Igbo Youth Leader and President of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Comrade Igboayaka Igboayaka, was abducted by unknown gunmen in Imo State on February 8, 2025, and said that men of the command arrested the Youth Leader.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Joshua Ukandu said that command officers arrested Comrade Igboayaka Igboayaka.

He maintained that he was arrested based on a petition submitted to the commissioner of police, which alleged he disseminated false information capable of truncating peace and destabilising communities in Ebonyi State.

SP Ukandu said that the command is currently investigating the allegations and that he will be charged in court once the investigation is concluded.

“The command reiterates its commitment to carrying out its mandate within the bounds of the law while respecting the rights of individuals.

It would be recalled that different media platforms were agog at the weekend over the alleged abduction of Comrade Igboyaka by suspected gunmen last Saturday evening in Owerri, Imo State.

The incident was said to have occurred at a hotel in the Works Layout area shortly after an election of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) led by Igboayaka.

An eyewitness said, “The gunmen, dressed in uniforms, drove into the hotel and dragged Igboayaka into their vehicle. They sped off to an unknown destination. A few hours later, they returned and towed his truck to an undisclosed location.

“This happened around 7:30 pm. We tried to identify the armed men but couldn’t because they appeared intimidating. Since then, we have not heard from him, and the abductors have not contacted anyone. We are praying for his safety.”
