The inspector-general of police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to pursuing kidnappers across the country and securing the release of every kidnapped victim, declaring that security operatives will not relent until criminal gangs are dismantled.

Speaking during a ceremony to honour police operatives involved in the successful rescue of kidnapped Oyo State students and teachers, the IGP said the operation was one of several ongoing security offensives across the country.

According to him, “We are going after all kidnapped citizens to ensure their rescue. We just rescued the NECO students in Kogi. There are similar operations going on across the country.”

The IGP further stressed that the Force would continue to recognise officers who distinguish themselves in special operations, as well as honour those who make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

“We celebrate our successes and also honour officers who participate in special operations and achieve success. We do that to encourage our officers,” he stated.

Disu reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to work closely with other security agencies to strengthen intelligence sharing and enhance operational effectiveness.

He said, “We will continue to collaborate with all sister security agencies to ensure successful operations and activities whenever the need arises.”

The IGP also appealed to Nigerians to support security agencies with timely information and cooperation, noting that public support remains vital to winning the fight against insecurity.
“We call on Nigerians to support the security agencies in these operations,” he added.

He assured that officers who sustain injuries during operations are receiving adequate medical care and welfare support.

A major highlight of the event was the posthumous honour bestowed on Sergeant John Jerome Abena, who lost his life during the operation to rescue the abducted Oyo students and teachers.

“We are here to honour the officer who died in the operation, Sgt. John Jerome Abena,” Disu said, describing the late officer’s sacrifice as a symbol of courage and dedication to national service.

Speaking on behalf of the operatives, ACP Abdul Rahman Mohammed thanked the police leadership for recognising their efforts and pledged that the team would remain steadfast in protecting Nigerians.

He assured the IGP that the operatives would do even more to combat crime and ensure the safety of lives and property across the country.
