The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Nkechi Eze as the first-ever Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services, marking a significant milestone in the Nigeria Police Force’s healthcare system.

The appointment followed the recent upgrade of the Police Medical Section to a full-fledged Directorate, a move aimed at ensuring comprehensive and efficient healthcare delivery for police personnel across the country.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who noted that the new Directorate would serve as a cornerstone for advancing the welfare and productivity of police officers nationwide.

According to the statement, IGP Egbetokun congratulated AIG Eze on her historic appointment and urged her to bring her wealth of experience to bear in repositioning the Directorate as a “benchmark for excellence in police healthcare delivery.”

“Nkechi Eze is a distinguished clinician, dental surgeon, and administrator who brings over 27 years of exemplary service to her new role,” the statement read.

Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and hailing from Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, AIG Eze holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.

Her career, spanning nearly three decades, has seen her serve in various police medical formations across Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory, and Lagos, where she made “significant contributions to advancing police healthcare services and officers’ welfare.”

IGP Egbetokun emphasised that the establishment of the Directorate of Force Medical Services represents a strategic investment in the health and efficiency of police personnel.

He noted, “The well-being and productivity of our officers are essential to the operational efficiency of the Force.”

AIG Eze’s appointment is expected to usher in a new era of structured and modernised healthcare services within the Nigeria Police Force, enhancing officers’ morale and overall service delivery.
