Inspector-general of police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has unveiled the new Force Gender Policy at the ongoing International Association of Women Police (IAWP), Africa Region training conference in Abuja.
The IGP said the new policy would ensure gender sensitivity and inclusivity in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF’s) operations.
He pledged the commitment of the present police leadership to gender inclusivity at all levels.
The president’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, opened the conference yesterday.
At the event, Senator Tinubu said the conference would help the police serve Nigeria better.
Senator Tinubu, represented by the wife of the minister of works, Rachel Umahi, further commended the inspector-general of police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and the IAWP for choosing Nigeria as the event’s host.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the central working committee, IAWP Africa Region and head of the gender unit, AIG, Aishatu Abubakar Baju, has said the conference will be held from July 2 to July 5, 2024.
She said the theme, “Addressing Africa’s Security Challenges and Safety through Collaboration and Inclusivity,” is apt, and the conference aims to bring together women in law enforcement globally to share insights, best practices, and strategies for advancing women’s roles in policing and enhancing their contributions to national security.
She listed some countries present at the conference, such as Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Liberia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and South Africa.
