IGP Visits Plateau, Vows To Arrest Perpetrators Of Killings

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu, has visited Plateau State over the recent killings in parts of the state.

He assured the residents that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) would strengthen security operations and bring perpetrators to justice.

Disu, who paid a condolence visit to the state government, said the police remained committed to creating a secure environment, stressing that sustainable peace and development require continuous synergy among security agencies, the government and communities.

During the visit, Disu said, “I am on the Plateau to discuss issues concerning the killings in Mangu and other parts of the state.

“We are not happy with the situation, and I can assure you we have made some arrests.

“Having gone round and engaged with stakeholders to have lasting solutions to the problem, I can assure you to have hope and confidence in the police, and we will continue working together in synergy and collaboration for a secure environment.”

“The police will work closely with the Plateau State government, other security agencies and local communities to address the security challenges confronting the state.

“We are intensifying community engagement and intelligence gathering to identify threats early, protect vulnerable communities and bring perpetrators to justice,” he said.

Disu added that, “Building trust between security personnel and communities is important, and I urge the residents to provide credible and timely information to enable security agencies to prevent attacks and apprehend criminals.”

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by his deputy, Ngo Josephine Chundung Piyo, said: “We commend the Police leadership for responding promptly to the security situation and visiting the state to assess developments firsthand.”

“The visit is a demonstration of the IGP’s commitment to protecting lives and property, and the state government places a high premium on sustained collaboration with the Police and other security agencies in maintaining peace and security.”

She said: “The state government has made tremendous efforts in strengthening security, and we appreciate the IGP for deploying a new Commissioner of Police to Plateau State and strengthening the Police Command’s capacity to work with the state government, sister security agencies, traditional institutions and communities.”

According to her, “Effective security requires not only the deployment of personnel but also robust intelligence gathering, community engagement and timely response to emerging threats.”

The Deputy Governor appealed to the IGP to activate and deploy officers to the Mobile Police Barracks in Gashish, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, saying, “The facility has remained moribund since its establishment.”

“Putting the facility to full operational use would strengthen police presence and improve response capabilities in communities within the axis.”

Piyo added: “The barracks have the capacity to improve security operations across Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos and Mangu local government areas.”

She also urged citizens to remain vigilant, saying: “Residents should avoid reprisals that could further escalate tensions in affected communities.”

Earlier, the IGP visited the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, where he engaged participants of Senior Executive Course 48.

Presenting a paper titled, “The Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship in Nigeria: The Role of the Nigeria Police,” Disu said, “Nigeria cannot build the orange economy with talents alone without genuine and deliberate commitment.”

“The orange economy encompasses music, advertising, digital art, technological change, and cultural exhibitions, among other sectors of the economy.

“Nigeria has distinguished opportunities in the orange economy as the country has vast potentials and creative youths who can process and drive diverse economic sectors, he said.
