Egbetokun stated this while speaking at an enlarged empowerment programme in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, marking her maiden visit to the State’s Police Command.

The IGP’s wife during the visit, distributed items including grinding machines, hair dressing machines, sewing machines and bags of rice.

Mrs Egbetokun said the intervention materials were not only to provide financial assistance, but the skill for self-reliance to secure better future for the families of late police personnel, assuring them that they are not alone.

She highlighted the vision behind the empowerment programme in ensuring the heart desires of the fallen heroes who left their families behind protecting the nation, adding that the intervention was also to create the widows for the less privileged to become self-reliant.

She further assured the recipients that the Police will continue to ensure their wellbeing and that of their children while also stressing the need for them to make judicious use of the equipment distributed to them.

Speaking at the event, the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, CP Augustina Ogbodo who described the event as timely, maintained that the empowerment also goes a long way to show the compassion, sympathy and commitment of the police hierarchy for the widows.

She also encouraged the beneficiaries to ensure that they put the equipment to better use, adding that with the skill acquired and the equipment given to them, the recipients will not depend on anyone for a better life.

The State’s Chairperson of POWA, Mrs. Miriam Anyai and some of the beneficiaries expressed delight on the empowerment, pledging that the gesture will not be taken for granted.
