Kelechi Iheanacho has taken to social media to bid an emotional farewell to Celtic FC, after completing his permanent transfer to Turkish Süper Lig side Bursaspor.
The 29-year-old Nigerian striker spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Parkhead, where he played a significant role in the Hoops’ domestic double-winning campaign. Iheanacho found the net nine times across all competitions, delivering key goals that helped Celtic secure both the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish Cup.
With his contract having expired at the end of the season, the former Leicester City and Manchester City forward departed Glasgow on a free transfer, opting for a new challenge in Turkey. However, before turning the page on his Celtic chapter, Iheanacho made sure to express his gratitude to everyone connected to the club.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Nigeria international thanked manager Brendan Rodgers for bringing him to Scotland, extended his appreciation to assistant Martin O’Neill and his coaching staff, and reserved special words for his teammates.
“To the Celtic FC, what we achieved last season was truly incredible – I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunity to represent your great football club,” Iheanacho wrote.
He added: “My thanks to Brendan Rodgers for bringing me to the football club. Thank you to Martin O’Neill and his staff. Special thanks to my teammates – will miss you guys.”
The forward also made a point of addressing the Celtic faithful directly, acknowledging their unwavering support throughout his lone season in green and white.
“To the amazing fans, thank you for your unwavering support,” he said. “I wish you all the very best for the upcoming season and beyond.”
The farewell post has since drawn thousands of responses from Celtic supporters, many of whom have returned their own messages of thanks and well-wishes for the striker’s future. Iheanacho is expected to be officially unveiled by Bursaspor later this week, where he will look to make his mark in Turkish football after a successful, albeit brief, stint in Glasgow.
