Sevilla boss García Pimienta has declared the duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke fit and ready for his side’s La Liga clash against Villarreal on Friday.
Iheanacho was not included in Sevilla’s squad for the 2-2 away draw against Las Palmas in their season opener, while Villarreal managed to secure a point against Atletico Madrid at Estadio de la Ceramica.
Ejuke was named among the substitutes but didn’t feature in the game
The two players are now in line to make their official debut for the Rojiblancos against the Yellow Submarine.
“Ejuke is doing very well,” Pimienta said at a press conference on Thursday.
“The other day he didn’t come in because of our decision considering the state of the team. Tomorrow, if necessary, he will help the team.”
He added: “For tomorrow we will have practically the entire squad except for Suso, who is injured. We want the team to be recognisable and to play as equals regardless of the opponent. Tomorrow we will play at home.”
After finishing a disappointing 14th in La Liga last season—their worst top-flight campaign since their 2000 relegation—Sevilla are eager to climb back into European contention.
However, questions remain over whether the squad has the depth and quality to challenge for a top-four finish, especially after a summer of significant changes.
