The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) with headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland has honoured the national president of Mbaise United States of America (USA), Sir S.O.S Echendu with an International Humanitarian Service Award for 2023.

In a letter conveying the award and signed by the secretary-general of the commission, Prof. H.C. Rafal Marein Wasik and the head of the Diplomatic Mission, Nigeria, Dr. Duru Hezekiah, stated that his selection was based on his invaluable humanitarian works over the years in upholding humanitarian rights in Nigeria and the US.

IHRC said his leadership of Mbaise USA and his non-for-profit organisation, S.O.S and Lady I.J. Echendu Foundation has consciously bequeathed inalienable rights to the less privileged ones in Nigeria in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment.

Echendu will be conferred with the International Humanitarian Service award alongside Nigeria’s former chief of army staff, General Theophilus Danjuma at a special symposium on International Humanitarian Law and Armed Conflicts: An African Perspective holding at Nigeria’s International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.
