Officials at Ikoyi Club 1938 are finalising arrangements for the annual Quomodo Inter-School Swimming Grand Slam, set to take place in a two-leg format in Lagos.
The youth-focused initiative, now in its third edition, is sponsored by Quomodo Systems Africa and aims to nurture emerging talent among primary and secondary school swimmers.
The first leg of the competition is scheduled for 9 May at the Ikoyi Club swimming pool, with the second leg set for 6 June at the same venue.
The secondary school category will be divided into junior secondary (ages 10–14) and senior secondary (ages 14–17), ensuring fair and competitive participation across age groups. Competitors will contest a range of events, including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, and individual medley, with distances tailored to each event.
Chairman of the Tennis Section at Ikoyi Club, Akinbulejo Onabolu, said the competition is designed to encourage participation, teamwork and excellence among young swimmers.
“The event will be staged in a two-leg league format, creating sustained engagement for schools, athletes, spectators and sponsors,” he explained.
Points earned across the various events will determine the overall team standings, with awards presented to outstanding swimmers and top-performing schools at the end of the series.
Onabolu added that the championship aims to strengthen grassroots swimming development, foster school pride, and provide a structured pathway for young athletes to grow competitively.
“We have worked tirelessly alongside our sponsors to create a solid platform where young swimmers can compete, develop and enjoy the sport,” he said.
Registration for the competition remains open and will close on 30 April.
