Segun Olajide, Games Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938, has expressed his delight at the enthusiastic response and participation from young tennis players at the recent Easter Holiday Tennis Clinic.

The popular event, which commenced on 7th April at the club’s tennis courts, concluded on Saturday, 11th April, with a tournament for all participants.

Mirroring the clinic’s structure, the tournament featured boys’ and girls’ categories across four age groups: 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, and 14-16.

Mr. Olajide lauded the youngsters for their dedication, healthy competitive spirit, and clear passion for tennis. “We observed their eagerness and excitement during training, and the fun they created,” he remarked. “Every child put in extra effort to improve each shot, learning to hit the ball accurately across the net.”

He added, “We also noticed their growing ingenuity and competitiveness as they hit the balls harder and faster, making it tougher for their peers to return. We even saw a few encouraging each other with pumped fists to celebrate great shots. The clinic ran smoothly, with good tennis, forehand and backhand drills, fun, snacks, and excellent camaraderie.”

Parents have also praised the Ikoyi Club’s tennis section for the successful clinic. Mrs. Chichi Amadu commented, “This year, it’s been top-notch. It gets bigger every year with more kids involved, so well done to the organisers and coaches.”

Mrs. Oyinkan Osiyemi added, “The organisers were very clear, and I liked how they categorised everything, ensuring every child fully participated. Last year, my daughter, Derike, won silver in her category.”

A highly competitive tournament was anticipated, with Victor Onyenkpa, Chairman of the Tennis section, promising a fun-filled final day for all.
