The candidate said he was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice in defence of the interests of his people and the Igbo nation like the late leader of the defunct Biafra, Ikemba Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, if elected into the National Assembly.

He told newsmen in Awka, yesterday that his senatorial ambition was not driven by personal gain, but by a deep-seated passion to champion the rights and aspirations of the people of Anambra South and Ndi Igbo at large.

“If I die while pursuing a just cause for my people, Iet my remains be brought home and buried with honour. This is not about politics as usual; it is about serving a cause larger than myself,” he said.

Onyekaonwu said that his decision to run for the Senate is rooted in his life long commitment to activism and people-centered advocacy.

He said , unlike some of the other contestants who are billionaires, he sees himself as a humble messenger of the people and not a political elite seeking to protect personal business interests.

He said, “I’m not going to the Senate as a billionaire or to defend a private empire, I am going there as an errand boy of the people, a true servant. Those who build empires often find it difficult to serve others. That is why billionaires cannot truly represent the masses”.

Onyekaonwu argued that the prevailing political culture, which prioritizes wealth over service, must be challenged if true democracy is to thrive.

“I am contesting against billionaires, yes, but I carry with me the voice of the voiceless. They call me ‘Comrade’ because I have always stood with the people, not above them,” he added.

Onyekonwu described Anambra South Senatorial District as a uniquely strategic zone that deserves bold, principled, and grassroots-oriented representation.

He linked his political ideology to the enduring legacy of the late Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, whom he described as a symbol of justice, equity, and fearless advocacy.

“I am not entering politics to enrich myself or to engage in theatrical performances. I am going to the Senate to uphold and exemplify the ideals that Ojukwu lived and died for ,the truth, justice, and the defense of Igbo dignity,” he stated.

He stressed that Anambra South, as the home of Ojukwu, should not send passive or transactional politicians to the National Assembly, but should elect courageous individuals ready to speak truth to power and fiercely defend the zone’s interests at the federal level.

Outlining his legislative priorities, Onyekonwu listed infrastructure development, youth empowerment, constitutional reforms, and the protection of Igbo interests within the national framework.

He said that he is committed to working closely with grassroots movements and civil society to ensure inclusive and participatory governance.

“Dim Ojukwu was not merely a politician; he was the conscience of the Igbo nation. He symbolized resistance, pride, and unyielding dedication to justice. That is the spirit I am taking to the Senate where decisions that shape our future are made,” Onyekonwu declared.

He called on eligible voters across Anambra South to see the upcoming senatorial by-election as a turning point in the political trajectory of the zone.

“This is a defining moment for our people. Let us choose representation that reflects our values, our struggles, and our collective future.” he added.
