He stated that though he is a great believer and supporter of the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, he is, however, not relying on him to install him as governor of the state.

Ozigbo made the declaration at a meeting with stakeholders of the Labour Party in Anambra North Senatorial Zone during where he declared to them his ambition to contest the coming state governorship election.

Some of the stakeholders of the Anambra North Senatorial zone present meeting in Onitsha on Saturday included the member representing Ogbaru federal constituency and Caucus leader of LP lawmakers in the House of Representatives, Hon Afam Ogene; member representing Onitsha North/Onitsha federal constituency, Hon Emeka Idu, his Anambra East/Anambra West federal constituency counterpart, Hon Peter Anaekwe, former member House of Representatives for Onitsha South/Onitsha North federal constituency, Hon Ossy Egwuatu, former state chairmen of the PDP, Chief Don Onochie, Chief Ejike Oguebegolu, Chief Edwin Kpandola and several others.

Appealing to the LP faithful to support his governorship ambition, Ozigbo who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2021 governorship election said, “I don’t want to be Peter Obi’s candidate, I want to be Anambra state candidate.”

He stated that for Peter Obi to win the presidency of this country in 2027, it is important that his loyalist becomes the governor of his home state, Anambra come 2025.

Ozigbo explained that though he hails from the same Aguata local government area in Anambra South Senatorial zone with the incumbent governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, he has decided to unseat the governor because his administration has recorded manifest governance failures in the past two years.

He stated that Soludo government has not only failed to deliver in the critical sectors of the state including in the agricultural sector, improving the economy, manufacturing and health sectors, the governor because of his natural arrogance has been at war with every critical stakeholder including the traditional rulers, community leaders, leaders of market unions and traders, members of the political class, technocrats, tricycle and shuttle bus riders and even the indigents, including street traders.

He stated that he is a strong believer in the zoning principle of the state, and, vowed that when voted governor he will serve on the saddle for just one term of four years.

He stated that the incumbent Abia state government, Mr Alex Otti has proven that any serious-minded governor does not need more than four years to make impactful achievements in a state.
