The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said he is not desperate to become president but eager to see positive transformations in the country.
Obi made the assertion last Saturday during an exceptional Sabbath church service in Umuahia, the state capital, to mark the second anniversary of Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s inauguration.
He said it is difficult to govern the country, especially for a leader who wants to do it right and urged Otti, a member of the LP, to continue to deliver his good work in the state.
The one-time Anambra State governor noted with delight the transformations Otti is executing in the state, and underlined the need for the people to give him maximum support.
“We come to celebrate two years with a difference. People have always said that they need eight, ten, or 20 years to deliver. But, I’ve always said that one day can make a difference. Everybody is seeing what is happening in the state. You don’t need to tune to the radio. You don’t need people to tell you. There’s a difference. And that’s what we’re celebrating,” he argued.
In a remark, the governor attributed the achievements his administration had recorded within the period to God, who he explained had inspired and strengthened him.
“That’s why we’re here, because we know that we all have worked hard, but then you could work hard and nothing would come out of it, if God doesn’t give you the increase and back you up,” he said.
While thanking Obi for always identifying with his administration, the civil servants, and the people, he appreciated the church for its prayers for him and the administration.
Earlier in a message, the former president of the Abia North Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Enyinnaya Uguru, tasked leaders with celebrating the present with care; otherwise, they will lose focus on the future.
In the message “At the fullness of time,” he said God’s purpose manifested in Otti’s life in 2023 after Otti made several attempts for the office, adding, “Periods of delays are periods of preparation.”
The clergyman said he stopped listening to government media platforms because of lies and added that Otti is doing well. “You are doing well, I ‘m saying it because I have evidence.”
