In a recent revelation on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Nigerian comedian Helen Paul shared that she was the voice behind the iconic line, “Uncle, please tell us a story,” in Psquare’s 2005 hit song ‘Story.’

During the interview, Helen Paul, known for her comedic prowess, disclosed that she initially had no knowledge of Psquare’s rising fame when she took on the voiceover role. At the time, she worked as a receptionist, and the opportunity arose when the original children meant for the voiceover didn’t show up.

She added that the opportunity opened several other voiceover jobs for her, which transitioned her from earning N9,500 as a receptionist to earning in six figures.

“I didn’t know P Square. I didn’t even know they were going to blow,” she admitted. “I was just very good at imitating voices. They agreed to let me do the voiceover, and I didn’t even know what it was to put your name on a song; I didn’t fight for it.”

She continued; “At the beginning, I didn’t know P Square. I didn’t even know they were going to blow. They came to the studio, and they wanted to record their songs. I think they were expecting some children to come and got disappointed. So, Ayoadeife said, “We have somebody who can do this voice, and this person can do all the range children,”

She went on to share that this opportunity opened doors for her in the industry, leading to various voiceover jobs. Helen Paul’s talent transitioned her from earning a monthly salary of N9,500 to a remarkable N400,000.

“The next job I did was for another milk product,” she added. “At that point, my salary was N9,500; I started receiving about N400,000 or N450,000 every month.”
