After repeated demands for the release of results of the Imo State gubernatorial election, members of the Labour Party have staged a protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Imo State.

Armed with several placards with different inscriptions like “INEC is supposed to be unbiased; INEC Justice delayed is Justice denied; INEC release CTC; INEC should be independent,” they chanted the anti-commission songs.

The state party chairman, Barr. Calistus Ihejiagwa, led the angry members of the LP to the state headquarters of INEC where they accused the commission of trying to frustrate them from challenging the result of the November 11, 2023 governorship poll.

Ihejiagwa said the results announced by INEC did not reflect those at the polling units.

Seated in a wheelchair, he said that INEC officials and the security agents connived with the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to compromise the election.

However, INEC’s head of Voter Education and Logistics, Mrs Emmanuelle Opara, said the commission had acknowledged the receipt of the application of the party for the certified true copy of the polls, as it the right of the party to do so.

Opara said, “The results are being assembled and will be costed and when they are ready you will be notified and when you pay, they will be given to you.”
