Imo State parents have been advised to register their wards under 18 years at the National Population Commission (NPC), to show the actual population in the state.
The federal commissioner for NPC for Imo State, Uba Nnabue, made the disclosure while interacting with Journalists in Owerri.
He said the registration is free and will help prove the actual figures of people in the state.
According to him, registration of births and deaths contributes to show the population figures of a people.
Nnabue disclosed that the commission was fully prepared to conduct the 2023 census exercise before the postponement announcement.
According to him, the commission had already recruited adhoc staff, conducted training and retraining of staff, including media engagements for the success of the project.
Nnabue, a former dean for Law Faculty at the Imo State University, maintained that the materials meant for the census, both sensitive and non-sensitive, have been kept for future use.
He said his other jobs include critical assignments like issuance of birth and death registration certificates amongst others.
On his part, the state NPC director, Barr Justice Ike said the meeting was directed by the national leadership of NPC to sensitize rural dwellers on the forthcoming census exercise.
The head of the controllers in the state, Mr Nathan Onuekwus, expressed gratitude to the media for their duties and expressed hope that the census will be conducted soon.
