Member representing Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, has alleged that operatives attached to the Imo State Police Command Tiger Base abducted several indigenes of Ideato during a recent political rally held in his support, stating that the victims were still missing.

The federal lawmaker condemned what he described as “improper and unlawful police actions,” accusing security operatives of targeting innocent citizens who participated in the peaceful gathering.

According to him, eyewitness accounts and information available to his office indicated that the affected individuals, identified as Nwosu Nmaduabuchi and Obinna Dim, were allegedly picked up during and after the rally and have not been seen by their families since then.

Ugochinyere called on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, to immediately investigate the incident and ensure the release of the said victims if they were found to be in police custody.

He further demanded the arrest and questioning of a police officer identified as “Ola” over what he described as improper conduct and abuse of police powers during the operation.

The lawmaker warned against the use of security agencies for political intimidation, stressing that citizens have a constitutional right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly.

He urged relevant authorities to act swiftly to prevent further escalation and reassure the public that security institutions remain committed to justice, accountability, and the protection of democratic rights.

“Democracy thrives when citizens can gather and express themselves freely without fear of harassment, intimidation, or disappearance,” he stated.

Ugochinyere also called on human rights organisations, community leaders, and concerned Nigerians to demand transparency regarding the whereabouts of the allegedly abducted persons.
