Impeached speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly (OGHA), Olakunle Oluomo and two other principal career officers of the legislature, Dayo Samuel and Adeyemo Adedeji, have been docked before the Federal High court sitting in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.
Oluomo and the duo were dragged before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged misappropriation of public funds amounting to the tune of N2.5 billion.
He was said to have committed the offence in 2022 when he held sway as speaker of the Assembly.
Meanwhile, the absence of the EFCC’s counsel at the court stalled the proceeding yesterday.
Shortly after the trio had entered the dock, the court discovered that the EFCC counsel was not present.
Justice O.O. Okeke, however, adjourned the case to February 29 and March 1, 2024, for continuation.
There was, however, a mild drama at 10: 04 am when Justice Okeke stepped out of her chamber and Oluomo’s case was mentioned.
Two personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) approached one of the journalists in the court and ordered that he must leave the courtroom “on the order of the court registrar.”
But when contacted in his office, the acting registrar denied ever giving such a directive and summoned the NSCDC operatives for questioning.
The NSCDC personnel, whose name tag was not displayed denied ordering the journalist out of court, saying, “I only asked him to meet the registrar before covering the proceeding.”
