LEADERSHIP reports that apart from the tanker explosion in Agaie in September last year where 60 people lost their lives,  another explosion took place in January this year in Dikko where 80 lives were lost.

Similarly, this year, a dynamite explosion claimed two lives in Sabon Pegi in Mashegu local government area, while the recent flood disaster in Mokwa claimed 207 lives.

Confirming the records yesterday,  the director general Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) Abdullahi Baba Arah said the agency was able to intervene in all the disasters.

He said, “In line with its mandate, NSEMA has continued to respond promptly and effectively to various emergencies across the state. Most recently, NSEMA led the coordination of emergency response efforts following the devastating flood in Mokwa which displaced thousands.”

While confirming that the number of lives lost in the recent Mokwa flood was 207, he said the agency mobilized resources, deployed response teams, and collaborated with local government authorities and humanitarian partners to provide relief materials and temporary shelter for displaced persons.

The director general said NSEMA was monitoring ” the humanitarian crisis brewing in Rijau as a result of banditry which has suddenly resurfaced across Mariga and Rijau local government areas.”
