The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command, has arrested 19 suspected drug dealers and users during a raid on identified drug joints in Gezawa Local Government Area of the State.

The operation, carried out under the code-name “Operation Ramadan Mubarak”, led to the seizure of large quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, diazepam, Exol-5, pregabalin tablets, rubber solution and a street drug popularly known as ‘Suck and Die’.

Spokesperson of the command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, said the operation was conducted under the leadership of the Kano Strategic Command Commander, CN DY Lawal, following credible intelligence from a concerned member of the community.

According to him, the swift action of the operatives disrupted a network of drug peddlers operating within the Gezawa community and led to the recovery of assorted controlled substances now in the agency’s custody.

“Our objective is simple: to ensure that our streets are safe and that residents can observe a peaceful and satisfactory Ramadan,” the Commander, CN DY Lawal, was quoted as saying.

He warned that the command would not hesitate to clamp down on individuals involved in drug trafficking and abuse, stressing that such activities posed serious threats to public health and community safety.

Lawal also commended residents who provide timely and useful information to the agency, noting that community cooperation remained vital in the fight against illicit drugs.

The statement added that the operation aligned with the directive of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), who has mandated sustained and intensified efforts to curb drug trafficking and abuse across the country.

The command urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to assist the agency in safeguarding communities and ensuring a crime-free environment, especially during the Ramadan period.
