Members of the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Wednesday, came out in Osogbo, Osun State, to protest Federal Government’s policies they described as anti-masses, among other concerns.
The protesters defied the early morning rain to converge at the Freedom Park, Osogbo as early as 8am with banners bearing different inscriptions stating their demands.
The leaders of the protesting groups, urged the government, both federal and state, to take prompt actions in alleviating the hardships faced by Nigerians during their speeches to the protesters.
Members of ASUU, who joined the protest, called on President Bola Tinubu administration to offset the eight-month withheld salaries of its members, as well as roll out measures to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal.
“We are out today to demand the abolition of all anti-masses policies by the federal government. We are saying enough to incessant Petrol price hikes.
“We are saying enough to insecurity that is ravaging the nooks and crannies of our land. We are saying enough to corruption. We are saying enough to the commercialisation of education. Nigerian masses are saying enough to incessant abuse of power,” they demanded.
They urged the authorities to address issues relating to the security and well-being of Nigerians as it is the primary responsibility of every government.
