As Nigeria celebrated its 64th Independence Anniversary, yesterday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, has reaffirmed the country’s dedication to sustainable development and the global agenda aimed at improving lives and fostering equitable growth.
In a statement released on behalf of Princess Orelope-Adefulire by her media adviser, Desmond Utomwen, the presidential aide emphasised that Nigeria’s trajectory over recent decades reflects not only resilience and growth but also a collective determination to uplift the nation through inclusive development initiatives.
“The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a framework for us to build a more equitable and sustainable society for all Nigerians. As we celebrate our independence, we must recommit to achieving the SDGs by 2030, ensuring no one is left behind,” she said.
While highlighting significant challenges such as poverty, hunger, and inequality, she urged citizens and stakeholders alike to recognise the importance of the SDGs in tackling these pressing issues.
She said that the nation’s progress relies heavily on collaborative efforts across various sectors and that the SSAP-SDGs has been actively implementing impactful programmes across Nigeria, with a focus on key areas such as education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.
According to her, these initiatives aim to create lasting change and improve the quality of life for all Nigerians.
“We must foster increased collaboration between government, the private sector, and civil society. Together, we can forge a path toward a sustainable future,” she said.
