The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), through its Training Department, has conducted a comprehensive review of its election training activities while setting the stage for upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.

The exercise, held under the Post Election Training Audit (PETA) and Pre-Training Assessment (PRETA) framework, took place over two days,Wednesday, to Thursday, in Abuja.

The workshop focused on evaluating the implementation and management of training programmes deployed during the 2025 Anambra State governorship election and the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.

It also served as a pre-election assessment platform to strengthen preparations for the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.

Participants drawn from across the commission engaged in critical reviews of existing training strategies, identifying gaps and proposing measures to enhance efficiency ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The programme brought together leadership and staff of the Electoral Institute (TEI), alongside officials from key departments including Training, Electoral Operations, Planning and Monitoring, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Human Resources.

Also in attendance were Heads of Operations and State Training Officers from Anambra, the FCT, Ekiti and Osun states, who shared field experiences and operational insights from previous elections.

During the sessions, participants made presentations on various aspects of election training, highlighting successes, operational challenges, and lessons learned.

Deliberations also centred on improving coordination, strengthening capacity building, and ensuring effective deployment of personnel for future elections.

At the end of the workshop, stakeholders developed a set of actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing the quality and delivery of INEC’s training programmes, with a view to ensuring more efficient and credible electoral processes.

The commission is expected to integrate the outcomes of the workshop into its broader preparations for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, as part of efforts to consolidate gains recorded in previous polls.
