The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for the election, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare of the University of Ibadan made the declaration at the Collation Centre in Ikolaba High School in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to the INEC official results, Oyekunle polled 18,404 votes to defeat his closest rival from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adewale Olatunji Murphy who polled 8,312 votes.

With this victory, Oyekunle will now replace the late Hon. Musliu Olaide Akinremi popularly called Jagaban, whose demise necessitated the by-election.

This victory further consolidates the PDP’s dominance in Oyo State politics.
