Kebbi State resident electoral commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hon. Abubakar Pawa Dambo, has disclosed that the bye-election for Zuru Constituency would be conducted on 20th June, 2026.
He said the development followed Kebbi State House of Assembly’s request to conduct the election, which was communicated to INEC national headquarters and scheduled for June 20.
Briefing newsmen yesterday after a stakeholders’ meeting at the commission’s premises in Birnin Kebbi, Dambo said the bye-election is to fill the vacuum created by the recent death of the member representing the constituency, Mohammed Usman Zuru, in Cairo after a protracted illness.
He also revealed that Kebbi had joined other states in the ongoing revalidation of voters’ exercise.
He said Kebbi State is among the three states with the highest turnout in the last voter registration revalidation.
“This is the final stage of the exercise, we are calling on all voters, particularly those aged 18 or older, those who lost their previous cards and those who have changed abode to immediately reach out to our 225 registration units to obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to participate in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.”
