Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Cross River State, Professor Gabriel Yomere, has warned all ad-hoc staff against involving themselves in acts that would tarnish the image of the INEC or be ready to face the consequences.
The REC also warned staff to steer clear of compromising today’s elections not to risk being imprisoned.
Speaking on behalf of Prof. Yomere, the head of department, voter education and publicity, Antonia Nwobi, he said; “Any person, political
party or their party agent who conspires to make false declaration of results or publish any election result other than the one announced by the commission is liable for to face the wrath of the law.”
The REC spoke after concluding retraining programme for collation officers and returning officers and others yesterday stressing that staff trained were drawn from federal institutions in compliance with INEC guidelines for recruitment of ad-hoc personnel.
Yomere advised the collation and returning officers to be non-partisan in the discharge of their duties so as not to drag the commission’s name to the mud or risk imprisonment.
