Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris has described the Image Maker Award 2026 conferred on him by Vanguard Media Limited as a reflection of ongoing efforts to build public trust and strengthen the communication ecosystem supporting the federal government’s reform agenda.

Idris received the award at a ceremony held on Friday in Lagos, noting that the recognition came at a critical moment for Nigeria as it pursues bold reforms aimed at repositioning the nation for sustainable growth.

“This award is a testament to the trust we strive to build with every Nigerian. Communication is at the heart of governance, and it must foster confidence, unity, and hope,” he said, adding that communication must go beyond mere information-sharing to actively build trust.

The minister emphasised the importance of transparency and sustained engagement with citizens and the media, noting that open dialogue has been instrumental in bridging the gap between government actions and public perception.

He also underscored the role of timely and accurate information in addressing national security concerns, highlighting ongoing collaboration between government agencies and media organizations to maintain public calm and strengthen confidence in government efforts.

Idris acknowledged the contributions of the media, government officials, and staff of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation in advancing Nigeria’s communication framework.

He commended Vanguard Media Limited for its commitment to excellence and dedication to recognizing national service.

Addressing ongoing reforms—including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange adjustments, and fiscal restructuring—the minister said the government’s communication strategy has focused on clarity, consistency, and credibility.

“We are committed to ensuring that government decisions are communicated with empathy and responsibility, always highlighting their long-term benefits for all Nigerians,” he added.

Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability, Idris described the award as both an honour and a call to greater service.

“This is not an endpoint, but a call to do more for the Nigerian people,” he said.
