The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has provided prosthetic limbs and assistive devices to beneficiaries who sustained work-related injuries.
The latest phase of its prosthesis provision exercise aims to restore mobility and improve the quality of life for injured workers.
Presenting the final report of the programme in Abuja, the managing director of NSITF, Oluwaseun Faleye, said the intervention was successfully concluded after all identified beneficiaries were assessed, fitted with appropriate prostheses, trained on their use and discharged following satisfactory evaluation.
Faleye, who was represented by the executive director of operations, Mojisola Alli Macaulay, said the Claims and Compensation Department monitored the exercise from its commencement in April 2026 through to its completion.
He noted that the success of the programme was made possible through the collaboration of prosthesis providers, employers, beneficiaries and the monitoring team, adding that providers also accommodated special clinical needs, including the provision of a hip disarticulation prosthesis where required.
According to him, beneficiaries who could not participate because they could not be reached, declined to attend after notification or had died were replaced from a supplementary list to ensure the programme achieved its target.
The intervention covered eight above-knee prostheses, one hip disarticulation prosthesis, 11 below-knee prostheses, 12 below-elbow prostheses, five above-elbow prostheses, one trans-humeral prosthesis and 40 silicone partial hand prostheses.
NSITF, in a statement, said that all 78 beneficiaries successfully completed the programme and were duly discharged following a satisfactory evaluation.
The general manager, claims and compensation, Nkiru Ede-Ogunnaike, noted that throughout the exercise, beneficiaries underwent assessment, measurement, prosthetic fabrication, fitting, gait and functional training, evaluation, and final discharge.
“The prostheses were successfully fitted, and beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the services rendered. Discharge letters stating completion and warranty with the beneficiaries’ satisfaction forms have been duly completed and filed in their respective dossiers”, she said.
Speaking on behalf of all the beneficiaries, Solomon Sunday, a staff member of Zodoson Industries in Abia State, praised NSITF for giving them their lives back.
He stated that most of them were depressed and frustrated with life after their accident before NSITF came into the scene to redeem their lives with prostheses, which have given them the opportunity to live normally once again.
