Senior special assistant to the minister of FCT on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement, Ikharo Attah made this known during the demolition at Karasana, Katampe extension, Jabi Arab, and other notorious spots, which he said was meant to restore security and sanity in the city.

He stated that the minister of FCT, Malam Muhammad Bello, had directed that there should be a comprehensive removal of notorious spots, especially in the Durumi area of the territory.

“Durumi has so many shanties, monkey villages, and the FCT Minister Malam Muhammad Bello, at the recent FCT executive meeting has given a marching order that all forms of dangerous illegalities around Durumi should be removed,” he said.

Attah said in a few days to come there would be another massive operation that would involve strategic agencies.

“It will be a massive operation which will involve the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Development Control, Directorate of Road Traffic Services DRTs, Security Department and all security agencies will be involved in the operation.”

“It has been discovered that Durumi has extreme illegality, especially around Area 1, and it extends to the Mabushi axis. There is a massive cleanup coming to Durumi soon. In Karasana, it was a continuation of the cleanup of illegal shops and shanties,” he said.

The director of the Department of Development Control, Muktar Galadima, decried the rate at which estate developers grab land in Abuja, which he described as unacceptable.
