Disturbed by the recent incessant attacks on their community by bandits, the people of Isanlu-Isin in Isin local government area of Kwara State, have introduced a special identity card that will give any visitor access to their land.
The secretary of Isanlu-Isin Development Association, Mr Jacob Ayanda, in a statement on Monday, said the measure was part of proactive measures to prevent incessant kidnapping in the community.
“To prevent re-occurrence of the security breaches that occurred recently by which four citizens were kidnapped and later released in Isanlu Isin; the traditional council, Isanlu Isin Development Association and critical stakeholders have taken some urgent security measures which includes the following:
“The local hunters and vigilantes were made to renew their pledges and oath of allegiance. This was done to make sure that bad eggs or sell out amongst them were dealt with because the recent breaches must be as a result of lack of cohesion and dissension.
“All of the branches of security outfits in the town are now to be coordinated by the community’s head of hunters (Oluode) henceforth to ensure unity of purpose.
“A new security patrol vehicle has been purchased and will soon be put to use to patrol all roads leading to Isanlu Isin.
“The Kwara State CP has directed 24 hours patrol and surveillance of Isanlu Isin – ijara Isin road by the Nigeria Police.
“Any stranger not properly identified will be shown the way out of the town as all recognised groups residing in the town must be properly grouped and registered.
“All non-indigenes are now to wear specially designed identity card.
All strangers/ wanderers occupying all land surrounding Isanlu Isin illegally will no longer be tolerated.
“Other security measures are also going on underneath to keep our roads safe,” the statement added.
