The organisers of Nupe Day celebration have declared that it will be low key due to the security and economic challenges facing the country.
A statement from the chairman of Publicity Committee of the celebration, who is the DanMasani Raba Nupe, Muhammad Kudu Abubakar, noted that “June 26th was the day Nupe Calvary Army defeated the British Royal Colonial Army at Ogidi via Kaba in Kogi State” and the Nupe nation across the country celebrates the special day.
“This year celebration would be low key just like last year due to the security and economic situations in the country. However the following programmes were approved by the Etsu Nupe and all Emirs in Nupe as well as the Elders Committee, Board of Trustees and national executive officers of Nupe Foundation (Ninibo Nupe)”, he declared.
He said as part of the activities there would be special discussion programmes at various broadcast media outlets to enunciate the importance of the day in Nupe history for the younger generations to learn from.
Abubakar said some of the programmes would focus on the contributions of Nupe land to the socio- economic development of Nigeria.
According to him special Jumuat prayers would be held and led by various Islamic leaders in Nupe land and special church services in all the churches in Nupe land to be led by the clergies.
He listed Baba Suleiman Sarikin Samari Nupe, Hon Fati Ladan Abubakar Gimbiyan Baddeggi, Mallam Ahmed Baba Ibrahim and Senator Ahmed Baba Zuruq , DanMasani Patigi as notable Nupe personalities who would speak on the socio-economic contribution of Nupe land and the importance of the day.
