Governor of Imo State Hope Uzodimma has said that insecurity is the biggest burden of his administration and expressed commitment to finding solution to it.

Uzodimma made the disclosure while addressing leaders at the 7th Imo Stakeholders summit in Owerri, yesterday.

The governor maintained that the attacks were orchestrated by political opponents to slow the government down.

He said, “The most challenging problem which has faced this administration is that of insecurity. With confessions from apprehended kingpins of the insurrections, it is now clear that the security challenges were contrived by the opposition to slow us down.

“As you know, for a better part of 2020 and 2021, insecurity threatened the State with reports of various criminal activities coming incessantly. Banditry, kidnappings, insurgency, ritual killings and even cannibalism and unresolved cases of assassination were the order of the day. These could have overwhelmed any government, but thank God with the support of President Buhari and the gallantry of our security agencies, we weathered the storm. Today Imo is rated as the most peaceful state East of Niger.

“It is indeed regrettable that some politicians have vowed not to relent in contriving insecurity in the state just for political gains. Have you not paused to ask yourself how come the hot bed of insecurity in the state has been domiciled in Orlu area and recently, Okigwe area? Why should this be so? How come also that the victims of politically contrived insecurity are only APC members or those working for me or my associates? Of course, we know the answers. We know those behind insecurity in the state and I believe you know them too. Let me therefore use the opportunity of this auspicious gathering to urge you to appeal to them to stop and repent before the wrath of God will consume them.”

The governor announced that the federal government has approved the establishment of a new Federal Medical Centre in Owerri to replace the FMC Owerri now converted to University Teaching Hospital.

The event attracted several dignitaries including former Governor Ikedi Ohakim, while Dr Pascal Dozie was the chairman of the occasion.
