Insecurity: Security Forces Taking Battle To Criminals, Says Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said security forces are taking the battle directly to bandits, insurgents and other criminal elements, assuring Nigerians that the country’s insecurity will soon be defeated.

Akpabio, who described insecurity as a major obstacle to economic development, said the fight against criminality had shifted from a largely reactive approach to proactive confrontation.

He also called for greater cooperation between citizens and security agencies, saying the military and other security personnel could not effectively tackle insecurity without credible intelligence from communities.

“The security forces are taking the fight directly to the enclaves of criminals, bandits, and insurgents,” he said.
“The strategy has shifted from reaction to proactive confrontation, and I assure Nigerians that insecurity will be defeated.”

According to him, insecurity remains a direct threat to economic development, as businesses and investors require a safe environment to operate.

“Insecurity is a direct enemy of development,” Akpabio said.
“No foreign investor will build in an atmosphere of chaos, and no local business can thrive without safety.”

The Senate President urged Nigerians to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, describing citizens as an important source of intelligence in the fight against criminal elements.
“Security is a collective civic responsibility,” he said.

“Our security personnel are working tirelessly on the frontlines, but they rely on actionable intelligence from the communities they protect.”

He urged Nigerians to abandon the culture of silence and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

“If you see something, say something to the proper authorities,” he said.
Akpabio also spoke on the banking sector, saying ongoing reforms had strengthened the industry and made it more resilient.

He said the era when the collapse of banks could leave depositors uncertain about their funds was being addressed through reforms, including the ongoing consolidation and recapitalisation of banks.

“Today, thanks to the bold vision and strategic foresights of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, our banking sector has transitioned from survival to absolute dominance,” Akpabio said.

He described the Nigerian banking sector as one of the safest, most resilient and technologically advanced banking systems in Africa.

Akpabio said the reforms were aimed at restoring investor confidence, protecting depositors’ funds and positioning the economy for long-term growth.

He also acknowledged the economic challenges confronting Nigerians, saying the government was aware of the sacrifices associated with the ongoing reforms.

“We acknowledge the sacrifices of the Nigerian people,” he said.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his cabinet members are not resting on their oars.”

The Senate President said the administration remained committed to policies aimed at addressing structural challenges in the economy and creating conditions for sustainable growth.

He urged Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to support national development and cooperate with government institutions.

“Let us stand united, support our security agencies, and work hand-in-hand with this administration to build the nation of our dreams,” he said.
