President Bola Tinubu has approved additional military equipment to support the Armed Forces in the ongoing fight against insurgency and terrorism across the country.

The Minister of Defence, Chris Musa disclosed this to State House correspondents after a security meeting with the President, where the service chiefs briefed him on the current security situation and recent developments in operations against terrorists.

According to the minister, the meeting was convened for the armed forces to provide the President with a direct briefing on the situation on the ground and to enable him have a better understanding of current security developments.

He noted that there have been a series of attacks in recent times but said the security forces have continued to respond and rise to the occasion.

The minister said the briefing was also necessary to clarify developments, noting that interpretations through the media do not always reflect the full picture of what is happening on the ground.

He assured Nigerians that security forces are recording successes in the fight against terrorism, adding that terrorists are suffering casualties during operations.

According to him, some terrorist commanders have been killed and their assets taken over by security forces in recent operations.

He, however, acknowledged that the military has also lost some courageous officers and men, describing the losses as highly regrettable.
